HEY MAMA!

I'm Ashley Johnson

NUTRITIONIST IN BOISE

Welcome to Wholefully Nutrition helping women restore their health for themselves

and their families.

My story starts out like many of yours. I struggled for years with uncomfortable symptoms only to be confronted with “that’s common, I wouldn’t worry about it” or “I can write you a prescription that should take care of it.” I remember a time in my life where I could anticipate a stomach ache after every meal, I spent every last dime on expensive skincare to manage painful acne, and I couldn’t get through the day without prescription allergy medicine.

During my undergrad at Cal State Long Beach, I not only expanded my knowledge of nutrition and the science behind the foods we eat but I also learned so much about how our relationship with food impacts our health. My first Introduction to Nutrition class in college was where it all started for me. We discussed in length the topic of chronic illness in the United States and the true epidemic affecting our nation. This opened my eyes to how little our population, including healthcare professionals, knew about the impact of nutrition on their health.

I worked closely with adolescents and adults going through in-patient eating disorder treatment and saw first hand the role mental health can play in one’s relationship with food. I volunteered with school aged children teaching them about where our food comes from and the benefits of eating a nutrient dense diet even at an early age. It was an invaluable experience and one that I am so grateful for even now as a Nutrition Therapy Practitioner.

In 2022, I chose to further my education and completed my certification as a Nutrition Therapy Practitioner through the NTA in March of 2023. This program provided me with the tools and resources I needed to educate and empower future clients and their families to understand and take control of their own health.

Most importantly, functional nutrition therapy practices aligned with my values in regards to nutrition and health, emphasizing a bio-individual approach that focuses first on the foundations and understanding the root of your symptoms rather than a one size fits all band aid solution.

Throughout young adulthood and early into my marriage,  I considered myself to be healthy. I was conscious of what I ate, limiting processed foods, focusing on whole foods and clean ingredients. I also made a conscious effort to stay active and made sure I was getting adequate sleep. The turning point in my health really came when I became a mother.

After a healthy pregnancy my first child was born premature at 30 weeks 4 days gestation with very little information as to why. As you can imagine it turned our entire world upside down. That experience completely changed the course of our lives, everything we had anticipated about becoming parents was challenged and we became advocates for our son overnight.

During that first year we not only started down the road of our son's healing journey but we also worked at addressing the root cause of our own health issues. It was during this time that I saw and experienced first hand the therapeutic benefits of nutrition and functional healthcare. I was able to understand the root of my acne and digestive issues, alleviating my symptoms through diet and lifestyle changes. My environmental allergies were also nearly eliminated and I was able to get off my medication entirely. It was during this time that I knew I wanted to share my knowledge to empower other women who were also struggling to find answers and feeling discouraged in their health journey. And so began Wholefully Nutrition.

My Story

MY APPROACH

as a Nutritionist

As an Nutrition Therapy Practitioner, I believe in a bio-individual approach to health and wellness focusing on what are known as the foundations of health; a nutrient dense whole food diet, hydration, digestion, blood sugar balance, minerals, and fatty acids. These are the 6 pillars our body relies on for optimal function and when one of them is weak it will impact many aspects of our health, from our hormones to our immune system. In working together, you will receive personalized nutrition, supplement, and lifestyle recommendations based on an extensive intake questionnaire. We will work at strengthening the foundations of your health to help optimize overall body function and help you to get back to feeling like the best version of you.
