My Approach to Postpartum Nutrition

As a mother to three young children I can vividly remember how ever so different and equally challenging my postpartum experience was after the births of each of my children. The one thing they had in common and my biggest take away from all three was how little support there was for mom after birth.

One of the reasons I chose to focus on nutrition therapy for mothers was to be able to offer support to women during the postpartum season when they truly need it most. Whether you are a first time mom or have been through this before, you should feel empowered and confident in caring for not only your baby but for yourself through this season. I will help you work on your health and wellness goals in a way that is realistic and sustainable with the season you are in. So much during the postpartum period is out of your control but we can support your body through those ever changing and challenging days.

As a postpartum nutritionist my goal is to support and empower mothers through this tough season. Taking care of yourself should not come second to caring for your baby, you can have both. I can help you find a way to prioritize your health and well-being while still giving your all to your baby.

  • Why is nutrition important for mothers?
    Nutrition is crucial for mothers because it not only helps to maintain their own health, but also has a direct impact on the health of their children and family. A balanced and nutritious diet provides essential nutrients that are needed for optimal physical, cognitive, and emotional health of the mother. It is important for mothers to prioritize their own nutritional needs and make healthy food choices to support their own health and the health of their children.
  • What are some common health goals for mothers in Nutrition Therapy?
    Every woman is unique in their health concerns, their health history, and ultimately their health goals which is why I feel so strongly in taking an individualized approach with each client I work with. Some of the most common goals I hear from mothers are wanting to eat healthier, weight loss, alleviating digestive discomfort and regaining their energy. When we address the foundations we will see that many of these health goals will simply become the outcome of addressing dysfunction with our blood sugar, digestion, fatty acids, mineral balance, and hydration.
  • What can I expect from Nutrition Therapy?
    Nutrition therapy starts first with an initial interview and assessment where we will review your intake questionnaire, health history, current concerns and health goals. Based on our initial assessment I will then put together an individualized plan with nutrition, supplement, and lifestyle recommendations. We will discuss these on a recommendations call and together will develop actionable steps to work towards your long term health goals. We will have quick weekly check-ins for any questions or concerns you might have and will meet monthly to check on progress and make any adjustments if needed. Functional Nutrition therapy is about understanding the root of your concerns and establishing a healthy foundation of which you feel you are able to maintain even through the changing seasons of motherhood.
