My Approach to Prenatal Nutrition

As women we have the incredible privilege of bringing life into the world and while pregnancy is a beautiful and sacred time in our lives it can also come with challenges. For every woman, pregnancy will be different and it is important to cater and adapt to your body’s own specific needs through this season.

 

My approach to prenatal nutrition is to focus on the foundations of your health which is essential throughout pregnancy to ensure both mother and baby are well supported. Establishing a strong foundation will not only support a healthy pregnancy but will also help to support your body through birth, breastfeeding, and the postpartum season.

 

During prenatal nutrition therapy, we will discuss the importance of a whole food nutrient dense diet, adequate hydration, supporting your blood sugar, addressing common digestive concerns, and the importance of essential minerals and fatty acids for both you and your baby.

As a prenatal nutritionist, my objective is to empower pregnant mothers on their health journey. I am dedicated to reestablishing a harmonious connection between you, food, and your body. My aim is for you to not only see your reflection in the mirror but to do so with a sense of pride, love, and immense gratitude for the remarkable journey your body is undergoing.

  • Why is nutrition important for mothers?
    Nutrition is crucial for mothers because it not only helps to maintain their own health, but also has a direct impact on the health of their children and family. A balanced and nutritious diet provides essential nutrients that are needed for optimal physical, cognitive, and emotional health of the mother. It is important for mothers to prioritize their own nutritional needs and make healthy food choices to support their own health and the health of their children.
  • What are some common health goals for mothers in Nutrition Therapy?
    Every woman is unique in their health concerns, their health history, and ultimately their health goals which is why I feel so strongly in taking an individualized approach with each client I work with. Some of the most common goals I hear from mothers are wanting to eat healthier, weight loss, alleviating digestive discomfort and regaining their energy. When we address the foundations we will see that many of these health goals will simply become the outcome of addressing dysfunction with our blood sugar, digestion, fatty acids, mineral balance, and hydration.
  • What can I expect from Nutrition Therapy?
    Nutrition therapy starts first with an initial interview and assessment where we will review your intake questionnaire, health history, current concerns and health goals. Based on our initial assessment I will then put together an individualized plan with nutrition, supplement, and lifestyle recommendations. We will discuss these on a recommendations call and together will develop actionable steps to work towards your long term health goals. We will have quick weekly check-ins for any questions or concerns you might have and will meet monthly to check on progress and make any adjustments if needed. Functional Nutrition therapy is about understanding the root of your concerns and establishing a healthy foundation of which you feel you are able to maintain even through the changing seasons of motherhood.
